There’s a quiet thought that visits many women in midlife.
Maybe it’s too late.
Too late to pivot.
Too late to change direction.
Too late to start something new.
Too late to express more of who you are.
We don’t always say it out loud.
But it sits there.
In Episode 3 of Midrising: Real Talk, Barbara and I explored that mindset — and gently challenged it.
Because here’s what we’ve realised.
Midlife is often treated as a label.
An age band.
A biological marker.
A season of consolidation.
But Midrising?
Midrising is a decision.
It’s the moment you stop being carried by the narrative and start driving it.
And that doesn’t mean crisis.
It doesn’t mean blowing your life up.
It doesn’t mean dramatic reinvention.
It means:
Stabilise.
Rebuild.
Move.
First, you stabilise.
You notice where you are.
You take ownership instead of spiralling.
Then you rebuild.
Not from scratch — from experience.
From wisdom.
From everything you already are.
And then you move.
Not recklessly.
Not loudly.
But intentionally.
In this episode, we talked about:
Why letting go of the “safe” version of yourself can be harder than building something new
How your body often signals misalignment before your mind catches up
What courage really looks like in this season of life
And why showing up before the applause is sometimes the bravest thing you can do
Courage in midlife isn’t dramatic.
It’s consistent.
It’s filming the thing and posting it.
It’s applying for the role.
It’s evolving in front of people who’ve known you for years.
It’s choosing to expand without burning everything down.
There is grief in growth.
There is discomfort in expansion.
There is vulnerability in being seen.
But there is also power in deciding to move.
Midlife can feel like something that happens to you.
Midrising is what happens when you choose what’s next.
Are you Midrising?
